Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D)

The programme is fully by research in the fields of study in economics, development studies, public administration, politics and applied statistics. The main objective of the programme is to develop skills of students in designing original research and conducting research independently. In the process, students learn to synthesise and evaluate critically scholarly literature, communicate research findings effectively to the broader scientific community and develop a sense of professional ethics in research. Students are also trained to publish in scholarly journals and present their research findings at international forums. Through the programme, students are able to advance their knowledge in the selected field of specialization, and to explore and extend the boundaries of knowledge through research.

Prepares and equips students with research skills as well as allow students to critically advance their knowledge in the chosen field. 
Career Opportunity
Employment opportunities are many and diverse depending on specialisation. Employment opportunities include positions in academia, government, international organisations and private sector. In specific employment opportunities ranges, but not limited, from banking and finance, development experts, consulting, public administrator, policy analyst, economist and statistical analyst.
Course Structure

Thesis submission not exceeding 100,000 words.  Candidates of this programme are required to take four (4) courses as prescribed by the Faculty. The courses include:

Research Methodology
EDHA7102 Reading Course

PhD Workshop Series, and any one of the following:

Seminar Series in Economics
EDHA7105 Seminar Series in Development Studies
EDHA7106 Public Administration and Politics
Special Topics in Statistics
Entry Requirement
The minimum qualifications for admission into a programme of study are as follows:
  1. a Bachelor's Degree (CGPA 3.0 and above) or its equivalent; and
  2. a Master's Degree or its equivalent in the related field; and
  3. evidence of adequate training and ability to undertake the degree programme of study
