Bachelor of Economics

The Bachelor of Economics programme is designed to provide solid grounding in theory and economic knowledge and improve the critical and analytical skills of students. The core and elective courses are shaped to produce graduates with broad based as well as specialized knowledge. Since 2015, the newly introduced specialization system provides students the option to specialize in one of four (4) areas, namely;

• Development Studies

A student will graduate with a specialization after he/she has completed the programme requirements and fulfils a minimum of 9 courses (27 credits) from a particular specialization.

LOCAL STUDENTS (MALAYSIAN)

Fulfill the University’s general requirements and the programme’s specific requirements in any of the following:

 

  • STPM qualification or its equivalent; or

  • Diploma from UiTM or Polytechnic Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (MOHE) or any other equivalent qualification recognized by the Malaysian Government and approved by the University Senate; or

  • MOHE Matriculation Programme, UM Foundation Studies in Science or UTM; and

  • Obtained MUET Band 2 and above


INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

The minimum entry requirement is the National Higher School Certificate (or an A-Level equivalent) and fulfills the condition as per below:

 

  • Pass with at least Grade B or/and 80% in the related subject ; or

  • Obtained with at least CGPA 3.00 in the related subject; and

  • Fulfill and pass the English Language requirement (IELTS Band 6.0 and above / TOEFL 550 (PBT), 213 (CBT) or 80 (IBT) / GCSE O Level with Grade C6 and above / GCE A Level with Pass);

Intake Schedule

The academic programme follows the semester system and commences in September (for Semester 1) and February (for Semester 2). The minimum period of study is 7 semesters and the maximum period of study is 11 semesters.
